Creation of French classroom for Azatan village school
Project Objective: To promote the dissemination and development of French in public schools in Armenia and improve the educational conditions of students.
As part of the project, it is planned to create a room entirely dedicated to teaching French in a fun and relaxed atmosphere at the secondary school in the village of Azatan. Students will have all the necessary conditions to improve their knowledge of French. The French classroom will be furnished with necessary furniture, computer equipment and a rich francophone library. Students will also have the option of staying in the room after class to do their homework or just enjoy the books or improve their speaking skills with audiovisual material and equipment.
Azatan Village Secondary School is one of the 273 public schools in Armenia with the teaching of French as a foreign language. Students regularly participate in Francophone events and Olympiads. Despite the motivation of students and teachers, the educational material is quite obsolete and does not allow to explore the richness of the French language. The students of the school are very studious. They take part in many extra-curricular activities.
Azatan village is located in the Shirak region. It is one of the most densely populated villages in Shirak. The village has 5,828 inhabitants. The only school in the village has 703 students (317 girls and 386 boys). The village is located 140 km from Yerevan, capital of Armenia and 10 km from the city of Gyumri (second city of the country).
The source of income of the villagers is agriculture (mainly potato cultivation). The village also has a kindergarten, a church, a house of culture and an artistic center.
