In the village of Mariamadzor in Hadrut, Armidaโ€™s life was defined by melody. As a professional Qanun player and teacher, her fingers were accustomed to delicate strings, shaping the cultural life of Artsakh for years. She taught at art schools and kindergartens, believing her path was set in music. But life had a harsher composition waiting for her.

The forced displacement took their home, but it couldn’t take their resolve. Arriving in Armenia with her family, Armida had to reinvent herself completely. The concert halls were replaced by open fields; the Qanun was set aside for the hum of beehives. Standing firmly beside her husband, who had 13 years of experience in the field, she mastered the complex craft of beekeeping. Together, they rebuilt their lives from scratch, acquiring 10 bee families and launching “Mary & Bee,” a brand named after their 4-year-old daughter, Mari.

But producing pure honey was only half the battle. In a messy, modern world, they needed to be heard. Armida faced a new barrier: she was an artist, not a tech expert. She felt the gap between her traditional skills and the digital expectations of a modern business.

The turning point came when she joined the free training courses in Digital Literacy and Artificial Intelligence (AI) organized by the Armenian Fund for Sustainable Development (AF4SD).

For Armida, this wasn’t just a class; it was an awakening. Before this, tools like ChatGPT seemed complex and unhelpful. Through the program’s dedicated mentorship, she didn’t just learn to use AI tools; she learned to use technology as a creative instrument. She discovered how to compose compelling content, tell her family’s story, and market “Mary & Bee” with professional precision.

She transformed from a refugee unsure of her future into a digitally savvy entrepreneur. Today, she blends the elegance of a musician with the grit of a farmer and the sharp skills of a content creator.

Her journey proves that it is never too late to learn a new language, whether it is the language of bees or the language of AI.

Armidaโ€™s message to other women is clear:

“Never let hardship break your creative spirit. Do not be afraid of new technologies. They are sheer tools, but in your hands, they can empower you to succeed and to rise again.”
